a happiest of birthdays to my one and only asian...

today was miss wang's 20th birthday. we may now wallow in denial and self-pity together until #21, in which we hope denial will be pushed to the back of our minds or totally forgotten by vast quantities of alcohol.

also, i just now, like 11:23 pm, realized i missed something... or rather, im missing something.

oh, and by the way, sometimes bad writing about unimportant things cracks me up.

....#4 during my bike ride on tuesday evening while passing by the front of kalamazoo central, in front of the entrance to the teachers parking lot (the smack center of the picture). someoen decided to set off a whole BOATLOAD of firecrackers, and had a car not zoomed by me about 10 feet before i passed by the, i would probably be telling you of some serious injuried rigt now... they were flying everywhere, they really screwed up te guys car. about 40 feet after i passed a whoel other set went off. agh. scary

#5 while watching an oh-so-typical Westwood Little League (WWL) girls softball game (the oldest girls, coached by courtney's dad) and sitting on my bike seat, a fly ball came over the fence, the only fly ball in all three innings i saw, and had i not managed to move my head about a foot, as much as i could withot falling over the bik an onto the grouns, th ball would have bammed me right square in the center of my head.

#6 trashing out a house in battle creek i stuck my hand in a large bucket of, what i thought empty space, but instead quite wet... QUITE. i thought it was blood. it was just water. neverthelesss, highpitched squeels and srills.

i am oh so tired. i am not feeling well, and i think i may not leave the hosue tomorrow. what an interesting week. brads in boston now. the pistons lost. andrew just went to a firends WEDDING today, and im just feelin nuts. i hung out with the previously attached, and dthat was delightful, clearly.

yogurt in itally is SOOOO much better. just in general. even crappy italian yogurt. i can barely keep my eyes open. actually, i cant.

ashley moments so far this week:
  1. leaving my phone/alarm clock on chicago time and therefore being very late for my first day of art camp. aka my first day of work in 6 months.
  2. taking my fat dog on a walk and making him hyperventilate for over 1 hour post-walk
  3. parking on a dead animal swarming with thousands of jumpy spider thingies and then getting out of the car. getting attacked by the swarmy things. and blaming it on the guy parked next to me, not seeing the dead animal. leaving it with its guts rushing and oozing out onto the pavement. everywhere.
its only tuesday.

There is a certain group of late teen to twenty somethings that will hold a special spot, a special and very nostalgic spot, in their heart, for third eye blind for the rest of their lives. am i crazy for saying this? maybe.

by the way, ikea is one of the most amazing places i have ever been to. and this is being said post-italy.

so there is a chance, that at the end of official week one of the summer of 2005 (ive come a long way since that famous summer of 2000 sing-a-long, maybe), i am already swearing off social, in particular romantically social, contact. considering this took until about week 6 or 7 last summer, i seem to be progressing (or digressing?). this will not be a crazy summer. it can't be. instead it will be ashley's summer of health and wellness! much needed after two years of college abuse. I feel with it being just my parents and i at home, candace on the east coast, and boyfriend-free, this should be delightful and certainly piu facile dell'altre situazioni. sometimes there is a chance that in italy the eleven of us became very good at making up italian words by adding a "zione," "ato," etc.

well, time to start planning out this summer of fun.

Saturday, June 18, 2005

oh chicago. im off to make my first visit to an ikea. i think i shall stay another night and then home for a few weeks of work. joy joy. that is all.

how sad.

Class Clown
You are 28% Rational, 71% Extroverted, 71% Brutal, and 71% Arrogant.
You are the Class Clown. This means you walk down the center of the
classroom with books on your head, while the teacher stares on in...

Shit, I really need to stop looking at these pictures while I'm typing.

Anyway, I MEANT to say that you are the Class Clown, and this
means that you are extroverted, mean, and arrogant. You are not very
rational, so you gravitate towards things that produce feelings or
emotions over thoughts (like fart jokes or spitballs, for instance).
You are also an extrovert and rather full of yourself, so of course you
want constant attention for yourself and think you are somehow better
than others. You can also be a bit mean-spirited, and like a class
clown you wouldn't hesitate to make a joke at someone else's expense,
no matter how terrible it would make them feel. So your personality
defects are that you have to be the center of attention, that you don't
care about others, and that you are rather irrational and motivated by
intuitions. Now stop walking around with those books on your head and
sit down this instant!

To put it less negatively:

1. You are more INTUITIVE than rational.
2. You are more EXTROVERTED than introverted.
3. You are more BRUTAL than gentle.
4. You are more ARROGANT than humble.

Compatibility:

Your exact opposite is the Robot.

Other personalities you would probably get along with are the Schoolyard Bully, the Smartass, and the Brute

The other personality types:

The Emo Kid: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Starving Artist: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Bitch-Slap: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Brute: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Hippie: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Televangelist: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Schoolyard Bully: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Class Clown: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Robot: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Haughty Intellectual: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Spiteful Loner: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Sociopath: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

The Hand-Raiser: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble.

The Braggart: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant.

The Capitalist Pig: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble.

The Smartass: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant.

long day

woke up at 7:30. moved all morning. we were supposed to go to graduation (we after all, used a fait amount of effot in obtaining my ticket) but I vetoed myself going on the grounds that wed never get doen in time. however, candace went and i dropped her off... she got there right as people were begining to walk into the quads... i dropped her off and then saw them all in procession, and, god only knows why, maybe graduations just get me, but i starting sobbing, we arent talking shedding a few tears, but i saw those black cap and gowns and i was gone, youd thought that either my dog died or i myself was graduating. i suppose i am just and emotional girl. then we moved until about 6:30 over to the new apartment, and then i drove home. it was of course also k's graduation. so i particpated in some festivites surrounding that event, on a mch lower key than last year. clearly, seeing how i am awake a coherent right now in my own house.

goodness i am super tired.

i have my own place!!! and it rocks!!!!! (certainly the best apartment i have ever seen in hyde park)

weather. whether.

madonna ragazzzi it is so warm. yes, i realize it is like 10 degrees cooler than italy has been since like april, but that is not the point. I wasnt moving apartments in italy. hmph. speaking of which, i am done and packed, i just need to port it all over to the new place. Candace however, is downtown shopping with sammy all day until 10 or 11 and has not yet begun. we have to be out of the dorms by three tomorrrow. plus we are going to graduation. do you see problems? i do.

mamma mia, kids these days.

last night i had a party, for myself. haha. regardless it was a very big success and i got to see everybody and it made me very happy. we consumed vast quantities of alochol but somehow john was the only one who got really sick or really even hungver at all. it certainly was no repeat of last quarters dudley house extavaganze of, well, interestingness. rather, and i think we all were quite happy about this, we all had good clean fun. for the most part. its really weird to be in teh dorms, i dunno, i may have acquired a really weird state of mind over the past few months. but being in the dorms makes me feel really young, not to say that im not, i mean, i wish i were younger, i have no desire to grow up, but its just so... oh i cant think of how to describe it. it is of course tons of fun though, its quite sad to be moving out for good. i will miss this place, a lot. a lot has happened in this house in the last two years, to say the least. goodness gracious. hearing about people and seeing everyone get ready to move on with their lives is also strange, its funny to me how i just spent three months in itlay pondering my ass off and i have come back to chicago and had all of what i thought i had figured out, all jumbled up and scattered around again.
oh chicago is beautiful in the summer. i hope marco is enjoying it.

happy summer.

While I'm here...

so, i am home, and i am just happier than ever. in fact, i think i am happier than i have been in years, its amazing what a few months thousands of miles away from everything can do to a person. my last week in italy was just amazing,,,
on monday we had our recital, which included ridiculous hats, me having waaaayyy too many lines compared to everyone else, and climbing on chairs and peering over chalkboards in an attempt to recreate a climbing of the leaning tower. and then all of our teachers said goodbye and thank you and i of course started crying cause i am just an emotional little girl, it was sad. then we had a little reception thingy at a bar across the street from the school and it was quaint, it was the last time we got to see Monica :(
on tuesday we woke up quite early and had to go to the questura, immigration office, and get our visa thingies we had applied for, then we went and filled out 76 page long evaluates of the program. fun. afterwards we went and finally climbed the tower, which was just beautiful. then later we went on a boat ride, like the one we went on that first saturday, except this one include about 6 glasses more spumante for me... and that was just the beginning. then we went to dinner at this tuscan restaurant and well, that was a riot. lots of randomness, me bonding with my like 40 year old teacher about men and commitment, which was beyond humorous. to me. clearly this was because i had consumed another good portion of wine, a very good portion, and i was about in the best of spirits i had ever been in since getting there. then Kenny, Jeremy, Annie, Sarah and i went out for some drinks in piazza Garibaldi. that only lead to some serious mischief on Annie and my parts. but those are stories for other times... i did manage to climb the staue of Garibaldi in the piazza and put a rose that Jeremy had bought through part of the sculpture in the base of the staue. which looks dandy. looked dandy. we wee out until about four meeting various italians, it was just Annie Kenny and i as usual for most of the night. and oh, poor Kenny.
so wednesdayi shopped with Annie and then we went with Kenny and had wine in this piazza that is always quite hoppin at night, there was also this big leftist movement shindig at the lawschool which we attended and was quite fun. my little sis was there. shes adorable.
on thursday my sisters and my dog drove me to the airport. no, the dog did not drive. and then i was off, i ended up riding to Rome with margot, which turned out to be nice, especially since she was meeting a family friend in Rome, who is the dean of the Loyola Chicago law school. and this woman, this woman was sooo great, and so so so nice to see and be greeted by. after three months of italians, this midwestern genuinely good hearted and warm person was like the most wondeful thing on earth. she reminded me so much of chris's mom, it was so nice. they helped me find my hostel and were so helpful and so amazing. oh. anyway, so Rome was WONDERFUL. on thursday i went out to some pubs and met some really awesome guys from seattle who i hung out with and got a cab back to my hostel with. it was soooooooo nice to be hanging out with Americans. and American music... oh man. it was so fun. then friday i walked Rome, did the Vatican and all that jazz, and upon return home met a bunch of people in my hostel whom were all so cool and nice, i made so many friends. one i even went to the airport with n friday, she was alifesaver with my luggage. then i lived in fiumicino airport for 24 hours, and met two other new kids, luke and robert. luke was just an all around great guy, and robert... well robert was the sobb story of the year. he was from scotland, he had spent the week in Rome with his grilfriend of three and a half years... they got into a fight the day before and she walked out and went to thairport and flew home. leaving him there. broken hearted.... why? because he had a ring in his pocket and was going to propose to her the next day in front of the Trevi Fountain at night... this poor guy. he was so worried about her and her tareling alone... it was like sweetest thing i have witnesses in quite some time. oh man... it really got me. we just talked for hours and hours, both of them were really great guys, its amazing how much bonding you do spending a night in an airport together.
so i eventually got on a bunch of planes and came home. my mom and i cried when i got into to Detroit. it was so unreal. so wonderful. and it hasn't worn off yet. my baggage got letf in Chicago but i got it yesterday afternoon quite promptly.
being home has been great, i just visited Lindsey today which made me so happy, i am so glad i will be home to spend the summer with her. i am looking so forward to another three months of vacation... what an amazing year.
oh man, happiness is priceless. too bad italy wasn't priceless, then i would have money. but instead i am broke for the first time in my life. truly broke. its crazy, but kind of exciting, it makes me excited to think i will be like this for the rest of my life if i pursue teaching like i want to. what's money, anyway? sometimes i wonder why i have been stupid enough in the past not to think like this... oh well, people make stupid decisions. its life.
oh yeah, i had this hour conversation with a random quasi homeless man in Rome one night, in italian, which made me proud, but that's not the point, but rather he was like the only italian i met the whole time whole liked pres bush and Americans. .it was bizarre. he was kind of inspirational really, perhaps had he not been so creepy.
oh creepy men.
oh America.
oh joy :)

finals week and partying

So, assuming that my dentistal activity tuesday through thursday goes fine, and i am not too hopped up on novacaine to drive to chicago on thursday, i plan to drive there thursday morning afternoonish, so i would say, and i hope i find agreeance here, that there is no better night for a party than thursday night. there's nothing like packing with a hangover on friday and saturday, sounds perfect to me. so dudley house is gonne party it up thursday the 9th? i think that the answer is yes.

school is over. going to rome tomorrow morning, and then home on sunday. what a crazy crazy world. (and just when italy was starting to get interesting...)

:) until then...
