oh glenn frey.

note to self:
pretty blue sharpie should be removed from ones hand promptly after returning home from night out with said sharpie on hand. otherwise one may have to go to church, class, and other public places with "DO INTOXICATE" on ones hand. inappropriate at best.

in other news...
stuck wishing life (and love) was as perfect as in the movies (or on abc)...

a letter of my own.

dear ashley,

if you are going to have me write "DO NOT INTOXICATE" on your hand in pretty blue sharpie, please don't remove "not" with vodka during the course of the evening. thanks!

a recent life lesson

dear ashley,

if you are going to not drink very often, that's great. i commend the fact that you have only drank about 4 times in the last 8 weeks. however, you must remember your tolerance will be much lower, and is in fact much lower, than it used to be when you were a lush in years past. consequently, you need to start consuming proper amounts of alcohol given your tolerance level on those occasions you do choose to drink. the amount you used to drink and just be delighfully bubbly now causes you to be rather, well, drunk. since i know you hate being drunk, and that has not been your goal in any of the last 4 drinking occasions, please adjust your alcohol consumption to the proper rate. have a delightful and not appalling day.

love,
ashley

apparently, blogs don't write themselves.

so, the downfall of having time on my hands again, is that, alas, I have no excuse not to have my life in order. In light of this, I have spent my first three days mock free attempting to do just that. It started with WWIII, also known as the great tuesday cleaning extravaganza. I won. My room looks nice, my brother put a picture of it as of last like thursday on kazzamalla.textamerica.com and a rather creepy looking guy commented on it, tellnig me to clean my room. I was not aware of this until Tuesday post-cleaning.

I'm not sure where to go from here. I missed more class this week than the whole 7 weeks before it, but it felt nice, and except for 7 weeks of Realism reading, I feel okay in my classes. Only okay. Unless you count my laughing fit in Donald Lamb's class yesterday, i must have been feeling great... regardless of my just short of mediocre midterm grade.

I miss my team, is that pathetic? I mean, 5 of them I have been spending 10 hours plus a week with since October, and the other 3 I love/miss no less. Amalia sent out the most team laser loving e-mail ever yesterday. it basically brought tears to my eyes. and I woke up to a nice rundown of our performance as team laser by delightful rob, which was quite commendable when put as he did...
"We competed in 12 rounds this year:
-We went 13-10-1, BUT
-We only lost both ballots TWICE
-The two rounds we did lose were to Drake (who went 8-0 and won their regional over the weekend) and UIUC (who won our regional last year). And then, to make it even more impressive, we split with Drake atLoras. So UIUC "A" is the only team in the country that escaped TeamLaser without losing a ballot.
-We had three rounds against teams that qualified for Gold (2 againstDrake, one against Loyola) We went 2-4, didn't lose any ballots by morethan 4, and actually had a +5 point differential.
-We had four rounds against teams going to Silver. We went 3-5.
NINE of our ten lost ballots this year were to teams going to a national tournament, and we lost them by an average of 5 points.
-We don't hate each other!"

I am so impressed. By them. And I think that is all on that subject.

I am currently in the midst of a five hour shift at henry crown... by myself. I came in early to cover for Molly, and have all of my own shift, and all without Molly. It is terribly sad. She called me as she went through Kalamazoo yesterday on the train on her way to Flint, she now knows the glory that is the Zoo. Or, she's seen it from the tracks. (I had "train tracks" and then I took out "train" and I was like, oooh, that sounds hott).

I fear with a five hour shift I could make this far too long, as I am quite bored, but I will do some latin and save myself. not in the jesus sense. in the from making a way too long blog. cause that makes sense...

OLYMPICS.

the medal count: (don't click during non-nocturnal hours)

http://www.speciali.raisport.rai.it/olimpiadi_invernali/medagliere/medagliere_generale.shtml

i'm glad the US has the most golds and all, but i really feel like I just want more quantity, not quality. Its like as a kid, when you might have rather had 15 pennies instead of 4 quarters? I don't know?

Oh OLYMPICS.

i've never really enjoyed christian bale until tonight.

Apparently the Boven children can’t be in two separate places for very long stretches of time. I rode the train home to Kalamazoo last night. My brother arrived here tonight. We are watching Batman Begins. It has been a Delightful Film Viewing Experience (DFVE).

I had my phone interview with Teach for America today. Michael Ambriz was a very friendly man, I think it went well, rather, it definitely could have gone much worse. The only really ditzy moment I had was when we had been going through a series of questions about a scenario for like five minutes, and the next question he asked was, “so how do feel, right now?” And I was just silent as I tried to decide what to say, my options in the pool of… “really nervous” or “really confused” or finally after a brief battle with silence, “wait, do you mean in my life right at this moment? Or the scenario?” Luckily, I don’t think he thought I was too dumb for asking the question, I mean, on the bright side, I at least didn’t answer one of the first two, which would have described my personal feelings in that moment. He really liked my question I asked him at the end, and I really enjoyed the brief interchanges we had. I’m really glad he warned me at the beginning that after I answer there’d be moments of silence while he took notes and what not, that he wasn’t just leaving awkward breaks while he waited for me to say more or just wanted to be evil.

truth be told, i just want to work on mackinac island. a lot. a lot more than philly. shhhhhhh...

gotham city is amazing.

also, i am just so confused. like, i keep trying to figure this out. "this" being an undisclosed matter that has plagued me for several days, well to be honest, probably longer, just not as consciously. basically, i just wish i were batman. the end.

also, i heart my latin teacher. he wrote on my wall. i am now friends with 2 of the 4 people deciding my winter quarter grades. if only john mearsheimer and ol' prof MM were on the facebook. i could just be friendly mcfrienderson.

gd.

if only i could find someone to take my vca shift thursday.

apparently i have zero willpower. just when i had gone so long... perhaps you really never can cure it?

in other news, hearing a large group of uc undergrads get excited about tequila roadhouse, exclaiming how much they wish to go with me, is just bizarre. it's tequila roadhouse people, just go to psi u. speaking of which, when we got to the party tonight a boy (interviewer boy from c-shop) told my brother "dont worry, we have a coat closet, you wont have to worry about losing you coat like at psi u." I laughed. I laughed because my brother has obviously never been to psi u. I laughed because I have been, and I now find that appalling. I feel so old. I don't think it helps that I spent the evening at a party with grad and undergrad students. and people i knew from hum, oweek etc, and they have all gotten so old. so have i... it was weird. yet, talking to like 7th and 8th year grad students, still so young...

also, i am going to fail astrophysics. it's now 4 am, and i think i will do my problem set. sounds like a less than GREAT idea, but what have i to lose? not turning it in at all? like my lab?
NO.

also, for great pictures of violating all that is northwestern, see here:
"Northwestern Sucks at Life" photo album
if you are logged into facebook, that is. i'm not sure that link will work either way though, to be honest.

i hate school. and i am definitely not looking forward to finding out how i failed at life last week by getting midterms back this week. i also just kind of want life to go away for a day or two.

more importantly, i kind of just wish i was in south america. not in a musical rock band however.

i also have no clue how to do the astro lab that i have to turn in tomorrow. no clue.

i hate anxiety in my life.

AND we never decorated the tree for valentines' day.
