my fmaily is great, my father has told me he consdiers me one of his daughters. our dog is n love wth me. she wont leave my side, or my room, or my stuff. maybe she smells jasper, koko, and tigger, and wants some of that. i have no idea really. but she is a sweetheart, her name is fiama. she is white. and small, but tall and lanky, its just the italan way i guess. my older sister is also a student at the university, her bst frend is a vegetarian. speaking of food, it s amazing. the keyboards? not so amazing. at this rate, i truly never will learn to type.
we have a five day holiday, and classes finally started yesterday. our main professor looks lke the lady with glsses from the incredibles. humorous indeed. we hav to red and do book report on a book by italo calvino. it took my lk a half hour to read two pags last night. it isnt easy reading at all.
i think i am going to bologna, if we can manage to go without th annoying people. but tht is asier said than done. we dont have a lot of time for travel, as we do lots of travel round tuscany on saturdays. oh tuscany, how i love the food.
sicily is the place for wine. for ester we had this white wine after desert (67th course) and it was like magic in my mouth. amazing. it mkes the red wine we usually hve with dinner seem like poo.

i didn't...

what a lazy day! i got up around 9:30. i went to bed around 6:30. i had trouble sleeping, i think i was having hot flashes. it was just so damn hot in that living room, and so many people snoring so very very loudly. so ive been tired. i had a tiny headache, but nothing too serious. i definitely had a fever and tummy ache all day, but i am guessing that was from my breakfast of champions (i.e. a fruit bowl, a frosty, diet pepsi, and some nacho cheese combos). I spent saturday evening in East Lansing with my brother and company, it was a joyful evening. And i remember every bit of it, which thrills me, considering my not-so-great track record with that. We got home this morning around noon or 12:30. My grandparents came over at 1:30, or so, we visited. I am very opposed to these people that feel the need to say good bye to me. i mean, 10 weeks is like the blink of an eye when you think about it.

some people really can't drive, and that just makes me insane. however, where i come from these days, a popular reaction to bad and/or reckless driving is honking. not so much in hunky dory kalamazoo. people think you are a serious bitch when you do it, and i do it a lot. the end.

bradley left this evening around 7:30 for new orleans and then florida for "spring break" (although many going dont technically have a "spring break" considering they arent "in school" anymore, because they "graduated"). I was looking at a picture of us that was taken last night and it is just really really scary how much we look alike. i had never ever realized this, or believed other people when they said it. it's kind of super odd to me now. that is all.

it seems, not that i ever look at perjuries or anything, that we, as in the u of c's mock trial team, did indeed get a bid to des moines, after getting 3rd (or maybe 2nd) in our division at the silver nationals. i'm very happy for them. nothing like winning and your reward being giving up more of your time in a ridiculously serious way to spend a whole nother 3 days robbed from your life. not that its not fun, i guess, well, i'm just glad they like each other. hopefully.

i am unsure of this evening's future. i have an option, but i'm not really sure it's a great idea. i am feeling better, but i dont know if i am feeling THAT much better. well, i guess i'll just go with what i feel like when the decision needs to be made. i really wish my wife would get on to coach me through this, however, my guess on where she is at does not bode well for what her advice would be.

:-)

si chiama sara. an ode to not sleeping alone.

sometimes you stay up two hours longer than planned with your two roommates lying in bed in the dark listening to a creepy girl in your headphones speaking in italian and saying it aloud to them. i miss sleeping in a room with other people. sleeping alone is lonely. boring too.

candace and i will have to leave our bathroom doors open next year so we can talk when we go to bed.

i hope lindsey doesnt get eaten by bears this week. i would miss her.

leaving the house count for wednesday climbs to an astonishing TWO

done with finals! finally, i can't believe i let that paper loom over my head for so long. hopefully it turns out okay, cause i just can't reiterate enough how much i actually payed attentiona and learned in that class. come to think of it, it is the third history class i have taken here, the other two not really counting as they were civ classes, but east asian civ and therefore fascinating as well, anyway, as i was saying, i have yet to not enjoy and become thoroughly engrossed in the material of the three history courses i have taken. the grad students in this class made me want to kill myself sometimes, there was this asian chic (gurrr, asian chics) who thouht that when she spoke she was in charge of the class... she was the girl i alway smake fun of who said things like, "well if i could just push you a little further," or "if you could explain your point and expand i think it woiuld really benefit the class." And she made these gestures when she spoke! OH MY i could not stand the gestures.

i have this dilemma of two paintings at midway with no way of getting them home. i have no idea what i am going to do.

i left the house TWICE today. the first time to meijer. i returned cans and bottles, only made about fifteen bucks, but i got some jelly bellys and was able to use it to pay for the rest of my night. Around 10 or 10:30 Andrew and i went and played pool. i think we ended up tieing at five games each. i only legitematly won like once, or maybe twice, he was having some 8-ball issues. and not of the fortune teller variety.

tomorrow i might be driving to chicago, with my mom, in the truck, who knows.

AndyA5410 (2:25:06 AM): see you later turtle

onto PISA!!!!!!!

Tuesday, March 15, 2005

girls are nuts to begin with, but when you give them chocolate, they flip out.

I woke up at noon and spent about every minute of my day until 11:06 writing my race and racism paper. It was already outlined mind you. I found it pretty sick. Writing a paper during daylight hours is even sicker. It was much more natural once the sunset. Plus I was working with the hope that I would get to go out and maybe play pool or something with Andrew afterwards. But it was too late at that point, amongst perhaps a slew of other complications, I'm not really sure.

Overall my day was pretty uninteresting. I saw a lot of WMU kids all day writing my paper at coffeeworks... lots of hott guys and girls. Kalamazoo has much more of those than Chicago I have noticed. In a very serious way. My mom gave me back massages while I write my paper once I came home, and fork fed me an omelet while I typed, it was really just plain amazing. Things kind of took a wrong turn somewhere in there, which is why I am in my current confused, upset and unsettled state, but oh well I suppose, I'm I can trace it back to my stupidity or inconsideration somewhere down the line. My sighy mcsighersonness has took to an exponential increase it seems. which is hard to believe considering while i was writing my paper i was going to amputate my lungs for the sake of my mother.

(EW drew carey is on the late late show and EW is he grosser looking than ever)

i would like to ROAR right now, but apparently that is annoying and retarded. so instead i will just go practice italian and do what candace and i do best. yeah, you know what i am talking about. hmph.

SEVEN days until pisa. and slowly but surely i am more urgently wanting out of this place...

oh, and i did figure out how these racial performances are inflected by the problems of gender, sexuality and class.

i have never worked so diligently and wide awaked-ly on a paper in my life.

I HAVE NO IDEA how these racial performances are inflected by the problems of gender, sexuality and class!!!

witches. she really is one, i swear.

i just wrote an email so boring and self-centered i could have killed myself. the true sign you really and truly could care less about someone's state of being and emotion. but it was a nice thing to do. and it occupied some time. i think the last five minutes of my life were more entertaining than the last 5 hours.

back to being a rockstar now.

kalamazooooooooo

i am home. and after a crazy few hours this morning (apparently even if when your alarm goes off at 8:45 and Jesse McCartny happens to be on the radio, you can still have a bad morning), i am sitting on the couch preparing myself for the final thing i have to do for winter quarter, my final paper for race and racism in the americas. As it stands, if I did well, i could get an A- in the class. This, my friend, would rock, as history and I apparently don't go together very harmoniously, or at least, all of the reading and I. Lots of reading. It is really no good. Who wants to spend that much time reading? I would be very happy with an A-, very very thrilled. PS, i got a 55% on my astrophysics final.

I was just working on a page of my astrohphysics exam that I skipped. that was vey hard, as I had to use my computer calculator. not fun. I also had to go to my moms office tis morning to scan a signed statement saying i didnt discuss my sosc paper with anyone. I finished my sosc apper last night. thank goodness. i think it may have blown. but at this point, i just want winter quarter to be over. on to bigger and better things, like Italy. ITALY!

i heart my living room furniture.

On wednesday Candace and I secured our housing for the next two years starting in June. It's a three bedroom on Woodlawn. 5331 S. Woodlawn in fact. I am so excited! It is the apartment Candace and I fell in love with last spring at the APO barbecue (our only frat fellowship activity that we have ever participated in). Our landlord, Mr. Liddell, you'll hear plenty about him, he's the most adorable guy on earth, called us and told us that about 20 minutes after we went and gave him the first month's rent three other girls came by, money in hand, ready to get it. In his words, "they were hurting." We are so rockstars. And SO lucky. Two full bathrooms. Backyard. Porch. Living Room. Dining Room. Big kitchen. Family room. Sun room. SO HAPPY!

i have a boyfriend named joe who is a peach farmer.*

i wonder what i will do on this exciting friday night. probably you know, sit on teh couch with my mom. but that's awesome, right? Andrew is sick apparently, so we won't be doing anything. I wonder if anyone has located a picture of my brother with his collar popped. "We oppose bradley boven's popped collar" needs a picture. i wish i could start that group at K, it might get more support. most people on teh facebook at the u of c don't know bradley boven. katie did join, and she doesn't know him, we need more people like her. also, he is too much of a fuddy duddy to join it himself. how annoying is that? margh.

i heart ellen. in a serious way.

I think i need a nap. i need a whole lot more than a nap

*i do not have a boyfriend named joe who is a peach farmer, but i bet someone does.

real ids and such.

our first double blogging attempt:

I find it COMPLETELY necessary for both Ashley and me to say something about that night. Unfortunately we did not have it in us to blog on that exact night nor the night after, but I'd have to say, understandably so. Let me just say, this was one interesting weekend. Very interesting.

The weekend started probably on Thursday night when we began our search. Ashley may have started her search earlier, only because she had realized the possibilities earlier. The mission: find someone at the U of C who matched the following criteria: 1) was over 21 (clearly) and 2) looked kinda maybe looked like us if you squinted and half opened one eye while looking at their ID 3 feet away from you. We were clearly successful. Ashley obtained her ID from a 21 year old wonderwoman and then Ashley proceeded to fill in her eyebrows with eyeliner and mascara and then smile like a crackhead (not because wonderwoman actually is or looks like a crackhead, just because the picture is well, um, interesting looking). Ashley then continued on her quest of becoming wonderwoman by memorizing her name (and made up middle name), address, and the fact that she was 5'8", which she actually is. I then proceeded to call my wonderwoman who graciously let me borrow her ID for a night when I was supposed to be going out to dinner with her. So she's a doll. As a sidenote, I know surprisingly few Asians at this school.

So my ID looks nothing like me, Ashley's isn't exactly a striking resemblance, but definitely better than mine. I mean, Ashley told me to flare my nostrils when I gave the bouncer the ID to look like my picture. That's serious. Speaking of serious, if I keep detailing like this, it's going to be a serious blog. So we go to Bradley's...oh, of course not until after we stood in like for 15 minutes behind the crazy lady at Subway, but I'm sure Ashley will talk about that. At Bradley's, there are Kevin, Nate, and the lovely Jason. They were mixing some serious girly drinks which I politely declined, but I would have been happy with some mixed orange juice, cranberry juice, and squirt. But Bradley refused since I was missing a crucial ingredient. So we travel to the North Side and nobody wanted to listen to our mouse story. (we caught 3 MICE in one day in our apartment. OMG.) We happily arrive on the North Side and then happily watch the college grads play some drinking games and then finally head out to the bar at 8:30...yeah, 8:30. Ashley and I aren't really used to going out until 11:30ish. Actually, these days, Ashley and I aren't really used to going out at all this quarter, so nevermind. Bradley won a party at Used Cars and already couldn't remember where it was for some reason, but luckily, his friends did. Anyway, Ashley and I staggered ourselves so we weren't obvious. And then, WE GOT IN!!! I know I would have been happy with the night and could have gone home after that, as Ashley was too. Hilarious people, hilarious night. I've realized, that bars are frat parties. Everyone there is just 21, or older. People even dance on tables at bars. Like at psi u. So ashley and I threw some of that down too. We were clearly better than the other girls. But after one song, we had enough of that. Later on in the evening, we may have met the single most hilarious person (hilarious in his connection, well hilarious in other ways too) there is in life. [EDIT for privacy etiquette]. Andrew Alexander is pretty hilarious too. Whoa, I've been writing for a long time and I haven't mentioned that I heart Bradley yet...I really do. Continuing on, after awhile, we took a little drive down to Barleycorn's, very cool bar, but we had to check our coats to be able to go upstairs. Oh, and they were a little more observant of the fact that we didn't look at all like our ID's and asked for addresses, which, of course we knew, and the IDs weren't fake so we rocked...hard. Continuing on...So we checked our coats. We did some more dancing. We did some more talking with said hilarious people. We hearted Bradley some more. Then the bar decided to close at 1:45 so we stood in the street with the hilarious drunk people of Chicago. I heart hilarity. But at that point, I also hearted going home...and funnily enough, Ashley stayed behind to have a lovely conversation with a lovely person. Meanwhile, I may have had the most hilarious cab ride of my life. Jason inquired about the career options of a cab driver, and the joys of being one. Kevin talked. Nate didn't stop talking. And Bradley, well, he was able to hold an entire conversation at a virtually inaudible volume, while, I assume, a bit inebriated still. We arrive at the South Side and Bradley and the boys graciously walked me home, while serenading me with a song that I can't really remember right now, but it was hilarious. I do remember Jason getting ready for bed though on the way home (he was peeing on a tree) so he could just go to sleep when he got back to Bradley's I guess. Then I had some Chef Boyardee....yum. I thought about having some easy mac ready for miss marie, but I decided I'd wait for her so it wouldn't get cold. Miss Marie came home, we debriefed...and then had a slumber party. I personally couldn't get over the hilarity of the night, at all, hilarious. And seriously awesome. And it wasn't the last weekend that Ashley and I are going to spend together our second year. No it wasn't. And she's not leaving me in 3 days for home and eventually Italy. Nope.

I heart Bovens.

The Weekend: by Ashley (aka, the longest blog ever) ...it happens...

so i had quite the weekend. it would definitely lean towards the more interesting/ridiculous side of the scale. well, let's see. On Wednesday i began pursuing obtaining an ID to use to get into some bars on the north side so that i could accompany my brother and some other individuals to this party thing (no cover/free drinks). well, i succeeded, thanks to the LOVELY and wonderful Cristina. So upon this great win, candace as well was inspired, and well, she put in some effort, and before we knew it we were getting ready absurdly early on a Friday night to be over to my brother's apartment to leave for the north side around six...
we had ridiculous experience at subway. well, i did. we both went in, but she had an order waiting at the snail however. so, after a few minutes, she was like, ill go it and come back. well, she did. and when she came back, i was still standing there. waiting. i hadn’t moved. so there is this woman. head to toe in fur. no joke. she is foreign. and she is very, well, particular about her subway. so this woman, and her husband (VERY whipped) take like fifty five hours to make her sub, because you know, the 55th street subway makes AMAZING subs... and well, put their meticulousness with this woman's craziness, and you have a half hour wait for a 6 inch veggie sub with only 5 people in line ahead of you. serious my friend, very very serious.
we went to my brothers. we ate. i haven’t seen kevin and nate since katie's wedding this past summer. i hadn’t seen them for years before that. jason was there too. it was joyous. brad made drinks, we nalgene bottled it up, and we were off to the 55 bus stop. it was raining. it was yucky. i didn’t melt though. the rid there was fun. well, i mean, i would have been content had we gotten to the bar and not been let in, with just that ride alone. i was very happy to get to Alexis's, as i haven't seen her in ages. we sat around, they played drinking games, napoleon dynamite style (cause some people stay in college forever, which i think is awesome i guess). then we left, eventually. i sadly don’t even know the name of the bar we went to. but we got in. it was cute, they didn’t even question the id's a bit. candace and i spent the whole free hours of drinks at the middle bar with jason, kevin, and nate. that very entertaining. i actually didn’t see anybody else that whole time. i did manage to consume way too much caffeine. in a very serious way (this is evident later). we eventually abandoned the spot, and socialized. we may have danced. well, we did. i talked much with my brother, i think. and then i eventually saw andrew. and we talked. some, i guess. i suppose i spent more time with jason kevin and nate than anybody, well, at that bar. it was odd, i mean, i have known these kids since i was like, born. but, it was really fun. eventually i met the one uchicago affiliated person that my brother invited. well, he invited his whole volleyball team, but most of them are youngins like me. however, his coach came. which, well, turned out to be more, well, i guess uchicago is a smaller world than i realized. Turns out we knew some of the same people. [EDIT for privacy etiquette] so i had someone new to talk to. the night just never stopped getting interesting. We eventually left that bar, and went to this other barish place. Mike drove candace, nate, rob and i there. i don’t really recall how far it was from the other place. anyhow, candace and i had fun at this one... we had a bit more trouble getting in, i mean, we had to say our address, but clearly we are nerds and knew everything on the ids by heart. i remember checking our coats. and it was really expensive, but you had to check them to get upstairs where the dancing was, because this place was a bit pretentious perhaps? i don’t remember. so Vince somehow got some sort of 3 for 2 deal. it was humorous. i was just dishin out cash left and right is all i remember, i only had so much, and i figured why not spend it all. i seem to live by "go big or go home" these days after all. so candace and i went upstairs. we danced. we were very happy to dance. we did get grossly sweaty. andrew keeps reminding me of this. i guess people don't like being touched or hugged when you are grossly sweaty. imagine that. meh.
they closed up shop really early. i don’t remember why. i guess things are fuzzier than i thought. so we all stood outside on the street like bums. lots of cops. i think. so, brad was planning to take a cab, but there was also mike who had driven, so candace and i were going to go with him, but he needed to eat some and just kind of sober up a bit more. but candace wanted to go home. so she kind of freaked out, cause you know, she didn’t just want to leave me there. but it was fine. i mean. it’s not like i didn’t have plenty of entertaining things to talk about with this guy i had just met, because i did. so we went to this diner. it was really really yummy. like, i just had some veggie chili, but it was really good. and if i ate meat, the chicken stir fry that mike had would have been a delicious option as well. it was very quaint little place. so then we eventually left. and on our way back to the car we saw this guy side swipe this cab. so, we were the only witnesses, so the cab driver came running after us. cause the other guy drove away. and we waited for the police. in his cab. which was odd. and then the police came, but drove by, so the cab driver ran after them, but he didn’t get them. so he came back. and then offered us a ride home. but we just needed a ride to the car. so he did. i didn’t know where the car was. but it was ok. we got back to it. after he could tell we were a little unsure of where it was, the cabbie, "you uh, don't, know where your car is????" That was pretty entertaining. anyway, so , we drove home. I was dropped off at the shoreland. oh yes. candace called while we were at the diner. to tell us she was taking a shower. thank jesus, because i didn’t want her dirty when i got home. so she had waited up for me. cause i had no key. we talked for along while, she dished out the details of what i wasn’t aware of. she apparently is a class A confidant. some lack maturity i guess. not candace. anyway. i was very hopped up on caffeine still. VERY VERY. Eventually we fell asleep. we woke up around eleven or twelve. I had a headache. that is rare. i was mad about that. cause i had eaten easymac before bed. that ALWAYS works. argh.

Saturay held the REAL drama. well, staurday night. anywhow. So, clearly, we went to ihop. in cicero. we had a crazy waitress. very very crazy. she treated me very oddly. i mean VERY nice. but it was weird. maybe we stood out (we did) but i don't think that merits creepily nice service. I ATE SO MUCH. ugh. i could still go for some pancakes though. mmmmm.
we hung out in the re for awhile. i slept. i woke up without a headache. a HORRIBLE stomache though. so we went home. we watched movies all night. shrek, and then we attempted to watch dirty dancing but we got invaded. john and jon. oh those jo(h)ns. well, john spilled water everywhere. that was sad. cause i was really dehydrated. VERY VERY. but he got me more. thank jesus. they finally eventually left. i mean, i heart them dearly, but it was girl time.
so, then drama ensued. a couple phone calls. one to me. one to candace (that is where the drama of teh weekend lies). seriously. the rest is just details. very long and drawn out details, apparently, thanks to me. ha. we both yelled into our cell phones a bit. good times... we decided to watch a movie in the bedroom and go to bed. oh, yeah, we also went around the house and got "perspective"... and interesting thing. i will have to scan in will's version of perspective.
so. we eventually got our blood pressure down and went to sleep.
i think i would like to tip a cow at some point fyi.
i also love people from Kalamazoo.
and candace.
oh. we are watching meet the parents. poor guy. how much more painful an experience can you get? i hope that doesn’t ever happen to any guy i know. i mean, not by my parents, clearly.
i ate a lot of food.
Leona’s was amazing tonight.
amazing.
holy shit, i have never had a blog this long.
take that, bitch.

Boo!

Mr Waternoose: Well hello, little one. Where did you come from?
Sulley: Mr. Waternoose.
Mr Waternoose: Ah, James. Is this one yours?
Sulley: Ah, actually that's my uh, cousin's sister's daughter, sir.
Mike: Yeah, it's uh, "Bring an Obscure Relative to Work Day".
Mr Waternoose: Hmm, must have missed the memo.
