so weird.

and i'm not talking about the disney channel and alexzzzzz johnson.

i think danny said it best when he said, "how did this happen?"

what am i speaking of?

Tomorrow is the first day of classes for the 2005-2006 school year.

What does this mean?
...It means I am a third year, a third year. It means I have lived and breathed UChicago for 2 years of my life. It means I attended a Dudley house meeting tonight, and saw tons of unfamiliar and young faces, who all blindly accepted candace and me as associate members... I remember saying, "someday when we get our own apartment, we'll have to be associate members..." It seemed so far off, and distant. It was also probably said during first or second week and therefore viewed by all as unlikely to hold true, given general o-week optimism, but that's just details. In fact, my first year roommmate and I have very few optimistic o-week wishes and "maybe"s that we havent already passed the milestone on and/or accomplished.
...It also means that two years later, two years after meeting Chris Martin, Anthony Hopkins, Gwenyth Paltrow, and others, Proof has finally been released in Chicago and viewed by Candace and I (and many others) and we adored it. I'm not so sure how our fellow patrons felt about our yelling and pointing, "look, it's Blake! it's Owen! it's crazy shoreland guy!" But we all made it through. Moral? Go see it, no matter where in this fine country you live, or school you attend, it was a delightful movie experience. Just know that is MY school, and the extras are MY people, and at any shot I am most likely on the other side of the camera, watching like a huge dork, instead of going to my first week of classes, first year.

so, tomorrow it all begins. another year of joyousness, and after that one remains until graduation. Assuming I graduate in four, which who knows, it could easily not happen, and it really wouldn't be the end of the world, at all. Somehow I have grown to love it here, and everyone that goes it here as well. Although I miss some people, and cozy hyde park won't be the same with certain people gone, or with not living in the dorms, or many other things, but I think this year will be just as good or greater than any other.

And so it goes...

my first weekend doing promotional work...

...was amazing.

(the 'i' list...)
  • i made money
  • i had fun
  • i got into the farm aid concert free
  • i got to be a VIP at the farm aid concert
  • i got to meet and see farm aid artists
  • i got to make a new friend
  • i got to give away 17,000 8.25oz organic and soymilk samples, pelting one person in the head and forcing an EMT to come to their aid
  • i met kenny chesney, willie nelson, and their managing and bus driving staff (including gator and pooty)
  • i watched two girls attempt to break-in to dave matthew's bus, flash the security man (dean, or stage name, "break daddy"), and two guys beg to go smoke weed with will nelson, as their lives would then be complete
  • i got to have dave matthews squeeze my hand for over five minutes, "i married an ashley..."
  • i got to have dave repeat my name more than necessary
  • i got to have dave sign my backstage pass
  • i got to do this all while getting paid to give people free milk
  • i got to write this blog to simply brag about it, but not care how annoying it would be to others
...did i mention my fifteen minute conversation with dave matthews after watching him, wilco, john mayer, neil young, john melloncamp, and so on, perform?

good god i'm being so annoying. i apologize, and promise to get over myself.

first weekend back in the lovely windy city...

friday? went downtown to go shopping and see a movie, didnt get there in time to shop except for at borders, across from the theatre, where i saw greg weintraub. unpleasant? mildly, it proved to be a delightful founding of the game, "don't let greg weintraub and his woman see me, even though knowing greg, he wouldnt even know who i was." I won. I saw The Constant Gardener and it was very good, i liked it a lot. I saw it all BY MYSELF. No, i was not in fact saving any seats for anyone. No, none of these seats are taken. thank you for asking though. really. Brad picked me up on his way home, as he was on the north side as well. that was a delightful and welcome surprise.

saturday? went grocery shopping at jewel. then out with bradley to a house party in wicker park, which was fun, and interesting. it was nice not to be the only person who didnt know anybody, it was a much more mixed crowd than the usual gatheirngs i tag-a-long on, so that was enjoyable. i was actually feeling quite up to be social and had some good fun. until i fell. and now have a foot that is nicely swollen, a knee quit bruised, and a big toenail that only has the very tiniest thinnest layer of nail left on it. not pleasant, especially not with my run coming up tuesday. the bruised lump on teh arm has only gotten worse, im thinkin doctor here soon. it took us 47 and a half hours to get home last night. and the jj hit me hard. this morning was rough, but i'm feeling quite delightful this eveing now. john told me two Student Directors got robbed and held at gunpoint last night at 54th and ellis. comforting news as always.

Monday! we shall see.

he's back!

oh to what greatness do i owe this blog entry? the fact that our english friend (well, i dont actually know that, but i like to think so) has reinstated his blog, "things i hate about my flatmate" with a new and different flatmate. this pleases me, and having things that please me these days is quite the treat. so, i'm glad for this, and you should be too.

do i go on and begin to truly update this blasted thing with something of substance about me for the last week or two? I don't think that is quite appropiate, nor possible, so for now I shall just go on attempting to be absent from my social world. and playing fridge roulette. the end.

it's been awhile...

the wisdom teeth came out last week... lots of meds, pain and blood, and about a week and a half later my gums are still quite bothersome, and i have quite the permanent hospital taste in my mouth.

i have had a crazy couple of days, a whirlwind of things happening that i had not planned to have nor expected, well i suppose all of inevitable, but still totally surreal and its definitely only the begining. I was supposed to move back to chicago monday and it is now friday and i still have no idea when.

I bought a dresser today, a bunch of bedding yesterday, and i might be getting a bed before i go back as well. i was at "the farmhouse" (falls into such boven family namingisms as "the raney house," "taft," etc.) and helping out for the first time since they bought it. I finished demolishing a closet that had been plastered, and found some 1920's business cards which was cool. My aunt Denise was there for awhile in addition to the mom, corey and christine usual crew. Which was super nice since i rarely if ever see her anymore. Turns out there is a toatlly groovy desk in the barn which is just perfect (not to mention what i have been looking for ALL summer but my parents failed to mention to me existed) for me to redo, which is something that would be kind of good to do before going to chicago, as redoing furniture sounds like a complicated thing to do in a chicago apartment. Who knows.

i happened to come across this when looking something up online tonight for christine, and it turned out to be one of the no-doubt more humorous things i have found online as of late... and its not even supposed to be...greatness

i hadnt intended on having much to say, and i didn't, which makes me curious as to what exactly this rather long entry consists of. all i know is i should have worn a mask the whole time i was demolishing instead of only partially, as i am going to have black lung and snot disease for life now i feel. or at least a few days.
